It is the mission of the Friends Alexander Hamilton & Descendants Group to enhance his legacy and contributions to America. Alexander Hamilton was born on the Caribbean Island of Nevis on Jan. 11, 1757. He later migrated to the United States from the Island of St Croix in the Virgin Islands. Because of his expressed intellectual brilliance at an early age he was given a scholarship to study at Princeton University in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Although he was not accepted at Princeton University he eventually enrolled in Kings College in New York City, which is now Columbia University. It was during this time that he became active in writing and speaking as a supporter of the cause for American Independence. When the Revolutionary War broke out he joined the local Militia and was eventually recruited by Gen. George Washington as his aide-de-camp. He went on to become a Revolutionary War hero. After the war he served as President George Washington's first Secretary of the Treasury.

During the Reolutionary War Alexander Hamilton discovered the Paterson Great Falls while traveling from Paramus, New Jersey to Gen George Washington's headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey. He invited Gen. George Washington and their friend the Marquis de Lafayette to have lunch and to explore the Great Falls as a possible site for setting up what was to become America's first planned industrial city

When Alexander Hamilton became the Secretary of the Treasury he submitted three
reports to congress. The first report was to get authorization to establish America's first Bank of the United States. The second report was to get authorization to pay off America's accumulated war debts and the third report was to get authorization to establish the Society for the Estalishment of Useful Manufactures. (SUM-1791) After this corporation was established he then founded the area surrounding the Great Falls which became Paterson, New Jersey The Friends of Alexander Hamilton & Descendants Committee has undertaken the task of assisting in the enhancement of Alexander Hamilton's legacy.
